A seminar on the relation between irrigation developments and production systems to be sponsored by the Agricultural Systems Department of CIRAD (The French International Center for Research in Development on Tropical Agriculture) will be held from December 16th to 18th 1986. The first theme will be on 'irrigation projects designed to control and exploit surface water'; discussions will concentrate on their development and maintenance by farmers themselves. Smaller irrigation facilities, designed and managed at the village level, will be the focus of the second theme. Large-scale irrigation projects, particularly the current relationship between technical models of large irrigation systems and the social and economic conditions of their contribution to agricultural production, will also be discussed.
