This publication is a summary of the proceedings of the consultative group meeting in Addis Ababa, held in December 1986 for the purpose of discussing all aspects of grain legumes production. It comprises a very wide selection of papers delivered by specialists at the conference. These are, in the main, reports on research work in progress and the countries concerned. The three grain legumes being discovered are groundnuts, chickpea and pigeonpea. The emphasis is on the cooperation of the nations concerned, and the exchange of both data and - in some cases scientists themselves, with the aim of improving production and quality in these economically vital cross.
The text is of necessity scientifically and research-oriented, covering such topics as ICRISAT's genetic resource (germplasm base), diseases and pests, plant improvement, nutrition of plants, and drought. This collection of papers will be of interest to those working in such areas, primarily those engaged in research.

This publications is a collection of papers delivered at a conference held in Zimbahwe in February 1986. Many of the papers contain abstracts in both English and Portuguese.
It is obvious from the statistics that a concerted effort is being made, through improved yields and quality to reinstate the groundnut in the world as demand has fallen considerably over recent years. The main producer of the crop are small farmers, who grow it not only for economic reasons, but also as a source of protein for their families. It appears that governments are aware of the necessity to improve and in.crease production and, to this end, Zimbabwe has increased producer prices.
ICRISAT recognizes the need to assist the countries concerned and has initiated a programme to foster the dissemination of information throughout the region by means of workshops, specialist group tours, newsletters and, most important of all, cooperative regional experimentation. This collection of papers is invaluable to anybody researching in this field.
Proceedings of the International Pearl Millet Workshop.

This workshop was held at the ICRISAT Centre, Hyderabad India in April 1986. The papers delivered are of particular interest as they show how much work is being directed towards this often undervalued crop. They highlight the fact that pearl millet is widely grown in arid areas and has great potential as a food crop. Although it has always been the npoor relation' to maize, pearl millet will produce a satisfactory yield, all things being equal, in only 150 mm of rainfall in temperatures ranging from a minimum of 2.5C to a maximum of 50C.
These papers are research oriented and contain a wealth of research data as well as discussion. Several are in French with an English translation
