Scientists from Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe meeting at the Centro Agronomico Tropical de Investigacion y Ensenanza (CATIE) in June 1987, have established a gliricidia research network.
Gliricidia sepium is a multipurpose nitrogen-fixing tree species which provides food, medicine, fuelwood and other products, and is native to Central America. The scientists present at the workshop assessed its genetic improvement and prepared a practical manual: Gliricidia Production and Use.
