| dcterms.description | This little booklet has been put together for the purpose of assisting extension workers in the Philippines to carry out work within the context of local economic and social problems. It addresses workers in the fields of nutrition and health, but its approach will interest those in other fields of extension as well.
The authors have, sometimes individually, sometimes in collaboration, written a series of articles covering the subject adequately for their purposes. It is not a booklet for the academic student, although time spent reading it would not be wasted, but is intended for those working in the field. It is more than a field notebook, but could not aspire to being an in-depth study.
The theme is the interaction of technology, which is illustrated cleverly on the cover; an interweaving of sub-systems, technology, client and the process or change systems. In conclusion, one can say that it is a readable booklet containing useful guides to extension in the field with a useful set of references at the end of each article. The article on monitoring and evaluation is particularly valuable in that it simplifies what can be complicated evaluation designs. Whereas it is not likely to feature prominently on university library shelves, it is a book well worth reading.
