| dcterms.description | The International Federabon of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) unites the efforts of its members to promote organic agriculture as an ecologically and socially sound and sustainable method of food production which minimizes environmen tal pollution and the use of nonrenewable natural resources.
The aims of the Federabon are to exchange knowledge and thoughts among its members, to inform the public, to represent the organic movement in parliamentary, administrative and policy-making forums (for example, IFOAMr European Community Delegation): and to set and regularly revise production processing and trading standards IFOAM's Technical Committee). It also initiates and coordinates research projects (IFOAM's Scienbfic
Committee) and networks on Third World activities. Every two years an international scientific IFOAM conference takes place. The quarterly international news letter serves as an information link, reporting on the work and activities of the Federation. A quarterly journal in
English and German provides information on the worldwide movement on research, new agricultural books, and actual developments . The English version will soon be extended into a trilingual journal (English, French and Spanish). It is envisaged that the activities of IFOAM will be regionalized so it may better meet the needs of the members of each specific world region.
