Disposal of unwanted pesticide stocks: guidance on the selection of practical options 65pp 1991 published by GIFAP
has just published Disposal of unwanted pesticide stocks: guidance on the selection of practical options. This booklet is addressed primarily to government authorities, aid organizations, UN agencies, major users and agrochemical industries and is concerned principally with the disposal of large quantities of pesticides. Large stocks have accumulated in a number of countries and in some cases extreme age and poor storage have resulted in leakage which, in turn, has presented a potential treat to the environment. The causes of accumulation have been various but include over-donation of products by donors, pressure to stop certain products being used, lower than expected pest incidence and poor local stock management. The booklet offers practical guidance on solving unwanted stock problems and includes advice on how to prevent a reccurance. However, it is intended only as a first step and readers are directed towards sources of further information and advice. A French edition is also available.
