Land conversion of pristine forest to agriculture, for example, reduces the numbers of plant and animal species, but might be beneficial for farmers (income) and urban population (food). The establishment of nature conservation areas might conserve the richness in biodiversity, but it deprives local communities of their sources of survival. The book bundles the angles and aspects of biodiversity and sustainable livelihoods, presents the ongoing debates and concludes with a set of possible future scenarios and ways forward.
