Ethiopia is the second country in Africa, after Morocco, to be saddled with obsolete pesticides, totalling 1,500 tonnes stockpiled in more than 400 sites, which are often near local communities. A FAO project, financed by USAID, plans to move the stocks to eight central sites, and to clean up the old stores. It will also train technical staff in the management and stocking of these products, and inform local people and authorities of the dangers involved in their use. Once collected, the containers of pesticides will be shipped to developed countries and incinerated in specialised factories.Email: Alemayehu.Wodageneh@fao.orgen_US
