Pacific Animal Health Information System or PANIS is a database and information system available on the Internet and on CD-ROM (only for Pacific Island Countries participating in PANIS)
Developed and supported jointly by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) - formerly the South Pacific Commission, the Pacific Animal Health Information System or PANIS is a database and information system available on the Internet and on CD-ROM (only for Pacific Island Countries participating in PANIS). The Website is maintained by the SPC Regional Animal Health Service in Suva, Fiji, and among other things, Pacific countries may post information related to animal health or quarantine on their respective country page. PANIS was created to foster unity and exchange among Pacific Island Countries. It should be noted, however, that the database is not limited to them: a livestock disease search will yield information on the prevalence of the disease world-wide, making PANIS a truly international project. A sister project for plants is in the works. Contact: Dr. Peter Saville, Animal Health Advisor, SPC, Private Mail Bag, Suva, Fiji.
