With more than 2,000 links to other sites on the World Wide Web, Index on Africa is an amazing gateway with perhaps the most complete coverage of the African continent. This Website has been compiled by a Norwegian NGO - the Norwegian Council for Africa (NCA) ? with financial support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The home page introduces NCA, which was founded in 1967 by anti-apartheid activists and has since metamorphosed into an advocate for positive and accessible policies for development cooperation with sub-Saharan Africa. The Website is just one of the ways that NCA promotes a cosmopolitan and multi-disciplinary approach, and how. For example: you can get ? or download - Ethiopian Jewish recipes, you can look up Nigerian telephone directories, or listen to the latest offerings of the Somalian musician Abdi-Razaq. You can surf your way through oceans of information, in time and space, from Cameroon to Somalia, from art to environment (where most of the agricultural information is to be found, reflecting a general trend on how to present information), from history to aquaculture, visiting on the way livestock, health, literature, women and child issues. It could be confusing, but the blessing of this Website is that is well-organised, from a user point of view: not a compliment that can be paid to all the sites of agricultural interest to ACP States. Information is accessible by country, general theme, specific topic, and by date. The main page of Index on Africa leads you to key areas: News of Africa links you with some major sources (newspapers, radio, television, news agencies) ; Africa news Update is a weekly review of African press; Country pages provides links to other sites, by country, and Subject pages by topic. There is dialogue a space for readers to make comments and suggestions for improvement. A search engine is used to connect to even more sites, using French, English, Spanish, German and Dutch. And if your own researches do not turn up the desired information, then NCA will offer to search further for you.
