Biotechnology: building on farmers, knowledge edited by Joske Bunders Bertus Haverkort and Wim Hiemstra 1996 240pp ISBN 0 333 67082 5 Macmillan Education Ltd
This book looks at the application of biotechnology to agricultural development. It begins with a farmer's view, assesses farmer based, as well as science-based biotechnology, and then looks at the socio-political context. It also examines a range of technologies from the simple to the sophisticated, and from those long established and widely applied by ordinary people to those more recently developed by specialist scientists. The book will be useful for managers of rural development organizations (both governmental and NGO) but in particular those working in the areas of animal health, sustainable agriculture and food processing.
