Born on 22nd April 1927 at Korschenbroich in the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Treitz obtained his doctorate in agricultural science in 1952 at Justus-Liebig University, Giessen, where he specialized in agricultural economics. He began his professional career in 1954, serving with the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs from 1961 to 1970 and with the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation from 1971 to 1993. He was seconded to serve in other organizations on several occasions; for example, in 1962 he was appointed to the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Communities in Brussels, from 1967 to 1970 he served with FAO in Rome, Sri Lanka and Iran and from 1983 to 1993 he was with CTA. Dr Treitz has headed several German delegations at international conferences and has served as a member of the boards of trustees of a number of international research and development organizations, including CIAT, IADS, ISNAR, IBSRAM and DLG. CTA has benefitted from the extensive experience Dr Treitz acquired in the course of his career, as well as from his many personal and institutional contacts. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr Treitz for his contribution and we wish him and his family happiness, health and long life.
