| dcterms.description | CTA has financed the translation of another title in the Agrodok series of practical handbooks. Fruit growing in the tropics, co-published with Agromisa, is intended for people who wish to grow fruit for their own consumption or for the local market but who have little previous knowledge or experience of growing fruit.
The fruits dealt with are divided into two groups. The first group covers tree crops such as citrus, avocado and mango. The second group covers fast-growing crops which produce fruit within one or two years, such as pineapple, banana and papaya. The advice given includes choice of planting material and a reminder that a good tree will give pleasure for many years but that a bad tree will give trouble for just as long.
The author provides guidelines on basic care and maintenance of fruit crops, harvesting techniques and storage requirements and advice on where to find further information. This includes an offer of further advice direct from the publishers about specific pest or disease problems that a reader may be experiencing.
