| dcterms.description | Rapidly expanding populations in many parts of the world are driving up the demend for protein. Short-age of land means that conventional livestock rearing cannot meet the demand. As a result, mini and microlive-stock are playing an increasingly important role in meeting the shortfall. However it is only comparatively recently that the rearing of minilivestock has developed from being a hobby activity into an economic enterprise. This change has brought about an increase in the demand for information, assistance and training.
As a result of these new interests, a group of interested organizations decided to organize a seminar to allow young scientists working in this field to meet each other for discussions and to learn from colleagues' experiences. As the whole field of microlivestock was considered too large, the seminar focussed on rearing invertebrate species. The seminar, which was entitled Invertebrates (minilivestock) farming, was held in November 1992 in the Philippines. The recently published proceedings provide the full texts of the papers given by the invited specialists.
