video entitled Previnoba and a participative approach to rural forestry
A new video entitled Previnoba and a participative approach to rural forestry shows the application of a participative approach to the field of community forestry in Senegal. The film depicts the experience of the FAO rural forestry project in PREVINOBA. The aim is to inform village extension workers and other project staff-members of the national forestry service and rural development organizations about the philosophy and strategy of this type of approach. A village extension worker is followed during his activities and gives his opinion on the approach. Villagers are also involved by commenting on the ecological problems they have encountered, their actions to fight them and the results. Because the film shows very clearly how a project intervention can be worked out in different steps, it is not only of interest to foresters but also to other people involved in rural development. The duration of the video is 36 min (recommended for training) or 58 min (version with all background detail more suitable for trainers), and is produced on VHS-PAL in French / Wolof with English and French subtitles.
