FAKT is a non-profit consuitanay which was founded in 1986 by organizations of the Protestant Church in Germany to make technical expertise available to overseas partners. it also works on behalf of governmental organizations such as the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ). The organization, together with its partners, aims to find socially arid environmentally compatible solutions to technical problems. In this complex task of technology transfer FAKT works in interdisciplinary teams with engineers, sociologists and economists. FAKT consultants specialize in the fields of water supply and sanitation, food technology, vocational training and craft promotion, participatory protect management and hospital technology. In the field of renewable energy they work with mini-hydropower, solar energy and non-edible vegetable oils as diesel fuels. Services offered include planning and accompanying technical projects, evaluations and studies, training programmes and seminars. FAKT's Question-and-Answer-Service deals with short enquiries from individuals, partners overseas and development institutions In Europe. Requests may concern technical problems, the search for specialist literature or suppliers of specific equipment. Enquiries that can be dealt with within half a day's work are free of charge, being financed by the Association of the Churches' Development Services. FAKT-FOCUS is the organization's newsletter. Together with their Working report, it keeps partners worldwide informed about projects in their different fields of work. FAKT also produces the newsletter Hydronef of the Micro-Hydropower Group, which is published in English, Spanish and Indonesian.
