Gyandoot is a community-owned rural intranet project in Madhya Pradesh. Computers have been installed in cybercafes in 31 centres, run by local entrepreneurs. For a nominal fee of Rs.5, farmers have online access to a commodity market information system, enabling them to get the best prices for their produce. The system posts the prices of vegetables, wheat, gram, soybean, etc., at the local mandi (auction centres), as well as the volumes of incoming agricultural produce, previous rates, etc. The Gyandoot project received the Stockholm Challenge IT Award 2000.
