Notes
The H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza epizootic is a serious multidimensional challenge to agriculture, rural development and public health and requires high multi sectoral attention for its solution. Many drivers of the crisis are insufficiently known which renders its technically and socially successful containment rather difficult. In this article some of these elements are highlighted as are the main actions undertaken by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in support of its member countries.
