Technical consultation on the development of market information services (MIS) for small operators in the agricultural sectors of ACP-Countries
Over the last five years, the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) has been actively involved in promoting the establishment of effective market information services (MIS) at the local, national and regional level. This has resulted in a number of initiatives such as the setting up of a number of MIS pilot projects in Africa and the Caribbean. Although these projects have been largely successful in meeting their initial objectives, future growth and development of these services will ultimately depend on the level of their sustainability and the degree to which they can collaborate with private and public sector institutions, which have a stake in the process. The technical consultation on the 'Integration of statistical services and agricultural market information services', which was organised by CTA, provided an excellent opportunity to tackle the above-mentioned concerns.
