Proyecto: control de las pudriciones radicales del frijol comun (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) en la zona andina

Abstract

This project aims at: (1) identifying the major pathogens of the bean root rot complex, (2) screening for resistant germplasm, and (3) evaluating low-input control methods that will significantly decrease economic losses caused by root rots in the main bean producing regions of Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia. The duration of the project is 3 yr as of June 1991 and the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) will fund it through the Bean Program for the Andean Zone (PROFRIZA-CIAT) and the contribution of the national research programs. Researchers from the 3 national programs will participate, with the scientific support of the plant pathology and breeding sections of CIAT's Bean Program. (AS-CIAT)

El presente proyecto tiene por objetivos: 1) identificar los principales patogenos asociados con el complejo de pudriciones radicales del frijol; 2) seleccionar germoplasma resistente; y 3) evaluar metodos de control de bajo costo que permitan disminuir significativamente las perdidas economicas causadas por las pudriciones radicales en las principales zonas productoras de frijol de Peru, Ecuador y Bolivia. El proyecto tendra una duracion de 3 anos a partir de junio de 1991 y sera financiado por la Corporacion Suiza para el Desarrollo (COTESU) a traves del PROFRIZA- CIAT y con el aporte de los programas nacionales de investigacion. En su ejecucion participaran investigadores de los tres programas nacionales con el apoyo de cientificos de Fitopatologia y Mejoramiento del Programa de Frijol del CIAT. (RA)
