    Abstract/Description
    Studies on yield potential continued at CIAT with the reevaluation of agronomic practices for max. yield. A considerable effort was invested in the production of erect, type IIa lines. Unfortunately, these lines have not shown the yield potential expected, possibly due to their erect habit, which makes them incapable of achieving full canopy cover at the 60-cm row spacings used at CIAT. Several expt. were conducted to compare a large range of materials at 20, 30, 45, and 60 cm-row spacings. In subsequent expt., the 41 most promising lines from previous screenings for earliness indicated a high correlation between yield, crop dry wt., and days to maturity. (CIAT)
     
    Los estudios sobre el potencial de rendimiento continuaron en CIAT con la reevaluacion de las practicas agronomicas por max. rendimiento. Se realizo un esfuerzo considerable en la produccion de lineas de porte erecto tipo IIa. Desafortunadamente, estas lineas no han mostrado el potencial de rendimiento esperado, posiblemente debido a su habito erecto que las imposibilita de alcanzar una cobertura total en los espaciamientos de 60 cm entre hileras utilizados en CIAT. Se realizaron varios expt. para comparar un amplio rango de materiales en espaciamientos entre hileras de 20, 30, 45 y 60 cm. En expt. posteriores, las 41 lineas mas promisorias obtenidas de anteriores selecciones por precocidad indicaron una alta correlacion entre rendimiento, peso seco del cultivo y dias a la madurez.
