    Abstract/Description
    Aspects of snap bean cultivation in Valle del Cauca (Colombia) are analyzed. They include importance, area, cultivation systems, irrigation, planting times, seed, var., herbicides, diseases and pests and their control, crop rotation, fertilization, harvest, quality standards for purchasing, genetic improvement, production costs, and income. Snap bean production is for inner consumption. Economic parameters such as profit, unitary cost, and break even point show the great advantages of growing snap beans in winter, mainly due to the water demand of the crop. (CIAT)
     
    Se analizan aspectos del cultivo de la habichuela en el Valle del Cauca como importancia, area, sistemas de cultivo, riegos, epoca de siembra, semilla, var., herbicidas, enfermedades y plagas y su control, rotacion, fertilizacion, cosecha, normas de calidad para compra de habichuela, mejoramiento genetico, costos de produccion e ingresos. La produccion de habichuela es para consumo interno. Parametros economicos como utilidad, rentabilidad, costo unitario y punto de equilibrio muestran las grandes ventajas del cultivo de habichuela en epocas de invierno, principalmente por la exigencia de agua del cultivo.
