Abstract/Description
The Chairman of TAC transmitted to the CGIAR a statement on plant protection in the CGIAR, together with the paper on which it is based, a report by TAC member J. M. Hirst. When the Group decided on November 1980 not to support ICIPE, it asked TAC to review the adequacy of research on insect and pest management at CGIAR centers. Professor Camus stated that the review found crop protection a well represented and integral part of IARC crop improvement and farming systems research. This confirmed TAC's earlier finding that crop protection was not a neglected area warranting a new CGIAR initiative, although expertise from centers of excellence outside the CGIAR was likely to be of continued value. The Hirst paper was discussed at TAC 26 in June 1981 and at TAC 27 and 28 in March and June 1982. Agenda document, CGIAR meeting, November 1982.
