Draft report of the August 1972 TAC Meeting, Chairman Sir John Crawford presiding. TAC decided to meet immediately prior to International Centers Week (ICW) in 1973 to facilitate sessions with the center directors. It recommended support to the programs and budgets of the five IARCs, endorsing the addition of rainfed rice systems to IRRI's research program, concurring with IITA's expressed urgent need for offsite research facilities, and favoring the beginning of regular support to CIP's core budget, with a recommendation for greater attention to post harvest issues. It proposed to discuss CIAT's production systems research with center economists, and did not support the proposed reactivation of CIMMYT's barley program. TAC recommended funding of AVRDC's immediate capital requirements as presented by Director Richard F. Chandler, but did not endorse support to AVRDC's core program. TAC endorsed proposals for an International Network of Genetic Resources (to become IBPGR) and for African relay stations to be fully integrated into ICRISAT's operations, with details to be negotiated by ICRISAT with concerned African governments. TAC requested IITA, IRRI, and IRAT to discuss with WARDA a reformulation of the latter's proposed program. It adopted the report of the TAC Subcommittee on Grain Legumes, carrying implementation issues over to its next meeting. It reached agreement on the terms of reference for the Near East Mission, and expanded the terms of reference of the mission to investigate protein production in Tropical America to include northeast Brazil.
