Report of the twentieth meeting of TAC, held in Paris, 20-22 September 1978, TAC Chairman Ralph Cummings presiding. This was a brief meeting with two principal agenda items. The first was further discussion of CGIAR research priorities, in which TAC considered inputs from its secretariat and chairman, and the CGIAR secretariat. The meeting report on this subject consists of a progress report to be presented at the November 1978 meeting of the CGIAR. The second agenda item was the report of the CGIAR Task Force on International Assistance for Strengthening National Agricultural Research. TAC endorsed the creation by the CGIAR of an International Service for National Agricultural Research (ISNAR), with several caveats listed in paragraph 70 of the TAC meeting report. TAC heard progress reports on quinquennial reviews of WARDA, ICRISAT, IBPGR and ILCA. An outbreak in Latin America of African swine fever was reported by the Chairman. TAC decided to take no action, but to maintain a watching brief on this development.
