Summary report of a CGIAR Ad Hoc Meeting on Water Management held at the World Bank in Washington D.C. on July 20, 1981. Confirming water management as a high priority area, the meeting discussed the institutional alternatives for a new CGIAR initiative. It was decided to establish a TAC study team on water research, management, and training. Terms of reference for the team are included, as is the membership of a CGIAR/TAC Steering Committee to oversee the work. The study team was asked to rate the level and adequacy of research and training in irrigation and water management currently underway at IARCs, international organizations, and universities; identify aspects requiring greater attention; and ultimately recommend whether the CGIAR should establish a new initiative or IARC in this field.
