Abstract

The minutes record extensive discussions on the funding crisis in the system and initiatives that the system might consider for increasing its core resource base, on strengthening relationships with NARS and their involvement in various system bodies, and CDC observations on the Herdt Report on restructuring. The minutes record decisions by the CDC to contribute to the public awareness initiative under the Secretariat, to the creation of a single livestock entity, to continue negotiations with FAO to bring the IARC collections into the FAO International Network of ex-situ collections, to hold the SSA/NARS agricultural research meeting, to provide assistance to NARS in the area of biotechnology and to establish a Task Force to develop an INRM program for the system. The minutes also record reports of the CDC subcommittees including progress on the establishment of AIARC, a comparative study on staff salaries and benefits and support for costs of the CBC and CDC Chairs.
