Abstract/Description
Memorandum of undertanding between IRRI and the Ford and the Rockefeller Foundations to establish the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines. The MOU states that IRRI would carry out the following activities: ( I ) Basic research on the rice plant and applied research on all phases of rice production, management, distribution, and utilization;(2) Publication and dissemination of the research findings of THE INSTITUTE;(3) Distribution of improved plant materials to regional and international research centers where they might be of signs-cant value in breeding or improvement programs;(4) Development of promising young scientists, primarily from South and Southeast Asia, through a resident training program under the guidance of distinguished scientists;(3 Establishment and operation of an information center and library which will maintain for interested scientists everywhere a collection of the world's literature on rice;(6) Organization of periodic conferences, forums and seminars on current problems and developments in rice research.This MOU was signed on December 9, 1959 by Juan de G. Rodriquez , Secretary of Agriculture and Natural Resources for the Philippines, Dean Rusk, President of the Rockefeller Foundation and Henry T. Heald, President of the Ford Foundation.
