Abstract/Description
Report of the TAC commissioned team on the need and feasibility of an international research institute devoted to upland crops and farming systems of the semi arid tropics. Report recommends establishment of an International Crop Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), preferably in India, to serve as a world center for the improvement of sorghum, millet, pigeon pea, chickpea, and the development of farming systems and cropping patterns to optimize human and natural resource use in low rainfall, non-irrigated, semi arid tropics. Agenda item discussed at TAC Second Meeting October 1971 and the Consultative Group Meeting, December 1971.
