Face à ces menaces globales, des initiatives ont été entreprises parmi lesquelles la création en 1973 au niveau régional, du Comité Inter Etats de Lutte contre la Sécheresse au Sahel (CILSS) et au niveau national du Centre National de Semences Forestières (CNSF) en 1983. Pour apporter une réponse à la dégradation continue des ressources forestières et à la désertification, le CNSF met à la disposition des acteurs de développement des Matériels Forestiers de Reproduction (MFR) d'espèces forestières et agroforestières adaptés aux conditions des zones soudano-sahéliennes et aux besoins des utilisateurs. Il s’agit des semences, des parties de plantes et des plants. Le présent catalogue offre aux acteurs engagés dans la reforestation une gamme variée des MFR qui peuvent être utilisés pour contribuer à l’adaptation et à l’atténuation du changement climatique et à la satisfaction des besoins de la population. Il se veut être un référentiel d’accompagnement des acteurs pour une meilleure utilisation des MFR de qualité, en vue de soutenir les efforts de reforestation, de restauration des terres, de lutte contre la désertification et le changement climatique. Le contenu de ce catalogue est le fruit de plusieurs années de recherche menés au CNSF sur la domestication des espèces locales. Le developpement de cette nouvelle version du catalogue a suivi un processus participatif conduit par les chercheurs du CNSF et qui a impliqué plusieurs experts. Dans le cadre de cet effort, le CNSF a collaboré avec l’Alliance de Bioversity International et le CIAT, et obtenu le soutien financier de l'Initiative CGIAR NATURE+, qui favorise l’inclusion de la biodiversité locale dans la restauration des paysages forestiers au Burkina Faso. Edith Marie Sylvie DABOUE Chevalier de l’ordre de mérite Burkinabè PREFACE A sub-Sahelian African country, Burkina Faso, like other countries, is facing desertification and climate change, leading to an accelerated degradation of forest resources. Thereby, several global initiatives have been undertaken, including the creation in 1973, at the regional level, of the Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS) and at the national level of the National Tree Seed Center (CNSF) in 1983. To provide a response to the continued degradation of forest resources and desertification, CNSF provides development stakeholders with Forest Reproductive Materials (FRMs) adapted to the conditions of the Sudano- Sahelian zones and to the needs of users. Planting material is constituted of seeds, plant parts and seedlings. This catalogue offers stakeholders involved in reforestation a wide range of FRMs that can be used for interventions contributing to the adaptation and mitigation of climate change and to meet the needs of the local rural communities. It is intended to be a reference guide to support stakeholders in better use of quality FRMs. This catalogue is the culmination of years of research by CNSF on the domestication of local plant species. This updated version was developed through a participatory process led by CNSF researchers and involving several experts. In this effort, CNSF partnered with the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT and obtained financial support from the CGIAR Initiative NATURE+, which promotes inclusion of local biodiversity in forest landscape restoration in Burkina Faso. Il est depuis 2008, l’autorité désignée du Burkina Faso au système OCDE pour les semences et plants forestiers. Sa mission principale est l'approvisionnement des acteurs de développement (semenciers, pépiniéristes, planteurs, associations et ONG, projets et programmes) et des structures de recherche, en matériels forestiers de reproductions (semences, parties de plantes et plants) de qualités génétique, physiologique et sanitaire améliorées. FRM quality and traceability, a guarantee of the success of your investments In West Africa, the CNSF is one of the leading centers specialized in forest seeds and seedlings of species of Sahelian, Sudanese and Guinean origin. Since 2008, CNSF is the designated authority of Burkina Faso in the OECD Forest seed and plant scheme. Its main mission is to supply development actors (seed growers, nurserymen, tree planter’s associations and NGOs, projects and programs) and research structures with FRMs (seeds, plant parts and seedlings) of improved genetic, physiological and phytosanitary qualities. CNSF also contributes to strengthening the capacities of its partners through the training it organizes. CNSF is based in Ouagadougou with its headquarters in Kossoghin, in the green belt, and its annexed infrastructure in Somgandé, adjoining the Bangr-Weoogo Urban Park. INFORMATIONS SUR LES MATERIELS FORESTIERS DE REPRODUCTION (MFR) Les MFR (semences, parties de plantes et plants) produits et diffusés par le CNSF sont issus d'espèces forestières ligneuses, herbacées (autochtones et exotiques), récoltées en majorité sur le territoire du Burkina Faso. Trois catégories de MFR sont proposées par le CNSF aux utilisateurs selon le niveau d’amélioration du matériel. Les MFR vendues sont accompagnées d’étiquettes de couleurs différentes en fonction de la catégorie :  Identifiée (étiquette jaune)  Sélectionnée (étiquette verte)  Qualifiée (étiquette rose) Cependant la catégorie Testée (étiquette bleue) est aussi admise par la législation nationale. Des informations pratiques pour une meilleure utilisation et une traçabilité des MFR sont également marquées sur les étiquetes. Il s’agit : du nom de l’espèce, de la date de récolte, de la provenance, du prétraitement préconisé pour les semences. II CONDITIONS GENERALES DE VENTE 1. Commandes Toute commande au CNSF implique l'acceptation des conditions de vente ci-dessous.  Le CNSF fournit les semences, parties de plantes et plants de toutes les espèces figurant dans le catalogue sous réserve des disponibilités en stocks et des prévisions de production.  Les besoins peuvent être exprimés :  en quantité de semences ;  en quantité de parties de plantes  en nombre de plants à produire;  en superficie/distance à reboiser (Voir bon de commande CNSF en Annexe 2). Les commandes peuvent être faites en se déplaçant au CNSF et dans les ARSF. Elles peuvent également se faire par téléphone, par WhatsApp, sur le site web, la page Facebook ou par E-mail (voir adresse du CNSF à la dernière page). Les semences, les parties de plantes et les plants ne sont livrées qu’après I. INFORMATIONS ON FOREST REPRODUCTIVE MATERIAL (FRM) The FRM (seeds, plant parts and seedlings) produced and distributed by CNSF comes from woody and herbaceous forest species (native and exotic), harvested mainly in Burkina Faso. Three categories of FRM are proposed by the CNSF to users according to the level of improvement of the material. The FRM sold is accompanied by labels of different colors depending on the category:  Identified (yellow label)  Selected (green label)  Qualified (pink label) However, the Tested category (blue label) is also admitted according to the national legislation. Practical information for better use and traceability of FRM are also provided on the labels. Those are: name of the species, harvest date, provenance, pretreatment recommended for the seeds. II GENERAL SALES CONDITIONS 1. Orders Any order to the CNSF implies the acceptance of the below sales conditions:  CNSF supplies seeds, plant parts and seedlings of all species listed in the catalogue, subject to stock availability and production forecasts.  The needs are expressed in terms of:  Number of seeds  Number of plant parts  Number of seedlings to be produced  Area to reforest/ lenght covered by tree planted in a line (See the CNSF order form in Annex 2). Orders can be filed at CNSF headquarters or in its regional offices. They can also be requested by phone, by WhatsApp, or via CNSF web site, Facebook or E-mail (see address of CNSF on the last page). Seeds, plant parts and seedlings are delivered after payment of the amount mentioned in the invoice. 7 payement. Pour la satisfaction des besoins en MFR de grandes quantités, ceux à conservation difficile, d’espèces menacées, de même que pour des besoins spécifiques, les commandes doivent être faites à l’avance et en tenant compte de la période de production de l’espèce. Pour les semences, les quantités minimales livrées par le CNSF sont de :  20 grammes pour les petites graines (ex : Eucalyptus camaldulensis, espèces herbacées) ;  100 grammes pour les graines de taille moyenne (ex : Acacia senegal, Faidherbia albida) ;  1 kilogramme pour les grosses graines (ex : Anacardium occidentale, Vitellaria paradoxa). Pour les plants et les parties de plantes, une commande précisant l’espèce et la catégorie doit être exprimée par le demandeur au CNSF qui lui évalue les couts. 2. Livraison Les MFR sont livrés aux clients soit au siège ou annexe du CNSF à Ouagadougou, soit au niveau des Antenes Régionales (Bobo Dioulasson, Dori, Fada, Kaya). Les colis de MFR peuvent être envoyés sous scellés par transport terrestre, par voie postale ou par livraison express selon les souhaits du client. Les frais de transport et de livraison sont à la charge du client. Le CNSF décline toute responsabilité pour les dommages que peuvent subir les lots durant le transport. 3. Garantie Les MFR sont fournis avec des étiquettes et des certificats contenant des informations sur la provenance et la qualité génétique, physiologique et sanitaire. Le CNSF garantit l'exactitude des données et les caractéristiques portées sur les documents qui accompagnent les lots. 4. Mode de paiement Les règlements s'effectuent en francs FCFA (Zone UEMOA), en Euros ou en dollars, équivalant au montant de la facture, en numéraire, ou par chèque au nom du CNSF, ou par un virement international au compte N° C00 2612200 C00060222 auprès de la Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest To meet the demand for large quantities of FRM, for FRM of species that are difficult to conserve, for FRM of endangered species, as well as other very specific needs, orders must be made in advance and must consider the production period of the species. For seeds, the minimum quantities delivered by the CNSF are:  20 grams for small-sized seeds (e.g. Eucalyptus camaldulensis, herbaceous species);  100 grams for medium-sized seeds (e.g. Acacia senegal, Faidherbia albida);  1 kilogram for large-sized seeds (e.g. Anacardium occidentale, Vitellaria paradoxa). FRM packages can be sent sealed via land transport, post or express delivery, according to the needs of customers. Transport and delivery costs are the responsibility of the customer. The CNSF declines all responsibility for damage that may occur to the lots during transport. 3. Guarantee The FRMs are supplied with labels and certificates containing information on the origin and genetic, physiological and sanitary quality. The CNSF guarantees the accuracy of the data and the characteristics provided in the documents accompanying the lots. 4. Payment method Payments must be made in CFAF (UEMOA area), Euros or US dollars, representing the total amount in the invoice, in cash or by cheque made out to CNSF, or by international transfer into the account N° C00 2612200 C00060222, at Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (BCEAO), 01 BP 356 Ouagadougou, 8 (BCEAO), 01 BP 356 Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Elle couvre les provinces de l’Oudalan, du Séno et du Soum. Le climat est du type sahélien avec une pluviométrie annuelle inférieure à 600 mm. La saison sèche dure de 7 à 9 mois consécutifs. Les sols sont dans l’ensemble peu évolués, présentant un horizon sableux en surface. Les formations végétales sont essentiellement constituées de steppes herbeuses (19,19%) à arbustives (40,08%), dominées par des épineux du genre Acacia dont les plus caractéristiques sont Acacia tortilis subsp. raddiana, Acacia laeta et Acacia senegal. Le long des cours d’eau et autour des mares, on trouve des cordons ripicoles avec comme espèces caractéristiques : Acacia nilotica subsp. adstringens, Acacia nilotica subsp. nilotica, Ziziphus mauritiana et Diospyros mespiliformis. On rencontre très fréquemment de vastes peuplements de Acacia seyal. Les autres espèces, fréquentes dans la Région sont : Balanites aegyptiaca, Combretum micranthum, Combretum glutinosum et Combretum aculeatum. Région de provenance N° 2 : Région Sub- sahélienne La Région sub-sahélienne est située entre les latitudes 12° et 13° Nord et entre les longitudes 2° Est et 3° Ouest. La région couvre les provinces suivantes : Bam, Gnagna, Komondjari, Loroum, Namentenga, Sanmatenga, Yagha, Yatenga et Zondoma. Le climat est du type sahélien, avec une pluviométrie annuelle comprise approximativement entre 550 et 750 mm et une saison sèche de 7 à 8 mois consécutifs. Les sols sont dominés par les sols ferrugineux tropicaux lessivés, avec de fréquents affleurements latéritiques. Sur les terrains cristallins du birrimien, on rencontre des sols parfois profonds. La végétation présente l’allure générale de steppes arbustives (19,94%) avec l’apparition de reliques de savanes arbustives rarement arborées. Les espèces sont dominées par le genre Acacia (Acacia laeta, Acacia senegal et Acacia dudgeoni) ainsi que le genre Combretum (Combretum micranthum, Combretum lutinosum et Combretum nigricans). Les champs et jachères se présentent sous l’aspect de parcs agroforestiers à Vitellaria paradoxa, Parkia biglobosa et Ziziphus mauritiana. Région de provenance N° 3 : Région de la vallée du Sourou La Région de la Vallée du Sourou est située entre les latitudes 11° et 12° Nord et entre les longitudes 2°30’ et 3°30’ Ouest. Elle couvre les provinces de la Provenance region N° 1: Sahelian region The Sahelian region lies between latitudes 13° and 15° North and longitudes 1° East and 2° West. The region covers the following provinces in Burkina Faso: Bam, Gnagna, Komondjari, Loroum, Namentenga, Sanmatenga, Yagha, Yatenga and Zondoma. The climate is characterized by annual rainfall ranging approximately between 550 and 750 mm, and a dry season lasting 7 to 8 consecutive months. Soils are primarily leached tropical ferruginous, with frequent lateritic outcrops. The crystalline Birrimian soils are sometimes deep. The vegetation generally consists of shrub-steppe (19.94%), with remnants of shrub-savannah, rarely wooded. Dominant species belong to the Acacia genus (Acacia laeta, Acacia senegal and Acacia dudgeoni) and to the Combretum genus (Combretum micranthum, Combretum lutinosum and Combretum nigricans). Cultivated fields and fallow are part of agroforestry parklands featuring Vitellaria paradoxa, Parkia biglobosa and Ziziphus mauritiana. Provenance region N° 3: Sourou Valley Region The Sourou Valley Region is located between latitudes 11° and 12° North and between longitudes 2°30‘and 3°30’ West. It covers the provinces of Kossi, Nayala and Sourou in Burkina Faso. The region is 34 Kossi, du Nayala et du Sourou in Burkina Faso. Le climat est de type nord Soudanien avec une pluviométrie annuelle comprise entre 750 et 800mm. Du fait qu’une grande partie de la Région est constituée d’une plaine, les sols sont spécifiques et constitués de vertisols, associés à des sols hydromorphes peu humifères à pseudogley le long du fleuve Sourou et ses affluents. On y rencontre également des sols ferrugineux tropicaux lessivés. L’hydrologie est influencée par la présence du Sourou qui constitue un réservoir permanent d’eau. La végétation est dominée par des savanes arbustives (26,81%), avec une strate arborée dominée par Anogeissus leiocarpus et accompagnée de nombreux arbustes dont les plus fréquents sont : Acacia seyal, Combretum micranthum, Ziziphus mauritiana et Piliostigma reticulatum). Dans l’extrême nord-est de la Région, on rencontre quelques formations de steppes qui couvrent 6,19% de la superficie. Région de provenance N° 4 : Région Nord- Soudanienne La Région nord-soudanienne est située entre les latitudes 10° et 12°30’ Nord et entre les longitudes 2° Est et 5° Ouest. Elle couvre les provinces suivantes : Bazéga, Boulgou, Boulkiemdé, Ganzourgou, Gourma, Kadiogo, Koulpélogo, Kouritenga, Kourwéogo, Oubritenga, Passoré, Sanguié, Tapoa (partie nord) et Zoundwéogo. Le climat y est de type nord soudanien. La pluviométrie annuelle est comprise entre 600 et 900 mm avec une saison sèche de 6 à 7 mois consécutifs. On peut y rencontrer des sols : - ferrugineux tropicaux lessivés ; - minéraux bruts ou lithosols ; - hydromorphes, le long des cours d’eau. La végétation est constituée de savanes arbustives (27,64%) et de zones cultivées (plus de 50% du territoire) qui présentent l’allure de paysages agrestes dominés ça et là par de gros arbres trapus de hauteur dépassant rarement 10 m, appartenant aux espèces suivantes : Vitellaria paradoxa, Faidherbia albida, Parkia biglobosa et Tamarindus indica. Région de provenance N° 5 : Région Sud- Soudanienne La Région sud-soudanienne est située entre les latitudes 10° et 12°30’ Nord et entre les longitudes 2° Est et 5° Ouest. The climate presents annual rainfall ranges between 600 and 900 mm, with a dry season lasting 6 to 7 consecutive months. The soils found here are: - leached ferruginous tropical; - undeveloped mineral or lithosols; - hydromorphic, along waterways. The vegetation is made up of shrubby savannahs (27.64%) and cultivated areas (over 50% of the territory) which present the appearance of rural landscapes dominated here and there by large stocky trees, rarely exceeding 10 m in height, belonging to the following species: Vitellaria paradoxa, Faidherbia albida, Parkia biglobosa and Tamarindus indica. Region of origin N° 5: Southern Sudanian Region The Southern Sudanian Region is located between latitudes 10° and 12°30' North and between longitudes 2° East and 5° West. It covers the following provinces in Burkina Faso: Balé, Banwa, Bougouriba, Houet, Ioba, Kénédougou, Kompienga, Mouhoun, Nahouri, Tuy, Poni, Sissili, Tapoa (southern part) and Ziro. Les formations végétales sont dominées par les savanes arbustives (33,70%), les savanes arborées (17,11%), rarement boisées. On trouve quelques galeries forestières le long des grands cours d’eau comme le Mouhoun et la Pendjari. Les parcs agroforestiers sont dominés par Vitellaria paradoxa, Parkia biglobosa et Tamarindus indica. On note la présence de quelques reliques de forêts claires à Isoberlinia doka et Burkea africana sous forme de vastes peuplements localisés surtout dans les réserves forestières de la Tapoa. Région de provenance N° 6 : Région de la Comoé La Région de la Comoé est située entre les latitudes 9° et 12° Nord et entre les longitudes 2° et 5° Ouest. La Région couvre les provinces de la Comoé, la Léraba et le Noumbiel. Le climat est de type sud soudanien et les précipitations annuelles sont comprises entre 1000 et 1200 mm avec une saison sèche de 4 à 6 mois. Du point de vue végétation, elle comporte les formations forestières les plus denses du pays. On y rencontre des reliques de forêts denses sèches et des forêts claires caractérisées par des espèces arborescentes comme Isoberlinia doka sous forme de vastes peuplements. Les cours d’eau à écoulement permanent que sont la Léraba et la Comoé, qui sont bordés de larges galeries forestières constituées de forêts denses semi décidues où l’on retrouve de nombreuses espèces guinéennes dont les plus remarquables sont : Antidesma venosum, Carapa procera, Dialium guineense, Rauwolfia vomitoria, Voacanga africana, Uapaca togoensis. 900 and 1,000 mm, lasting 4 to 6 months. The climate is of the southern Sudanian type, with annual rainfall ranging between 1,000 and 1,200 mm and a dry season lasting 4 to 6 months. In terms of vegetation, it has the densest forest formations in the country. There are remnants of dense dry forests and open forests characterized by tree species such as Isoberlinia doka in the form of vast stands. The Léraba and Comoé rivers, which are permanently flowing, are bordered by wide forest galleries made up of dense semi-deciduous forests containing numerous Guinean species, the most notable of which are: Antidesma venosum, Carapa procera, Dialium guineense, Rauwolfia vomitoria, Voacanga africana, Uapaca togoensis. 36
