Abstract/Description

An assessment of the strengths and shortcomings of the institutions of Zimbabwe's national agricultural research system (NARS) , and their interaction with CGIAR Centers. The paper reviews the impacts of CIMMYT support to the Rhodesian/Zimbabwean wheat program, and the early impacts of other CGIAR Centers in supporting the NARS' reorientation toward peasant farming since the country's independence in 1980. Written by K. J. Billing of the consulting firm GITEC, Harare, Zimbabwe.
