Abstract/Description

Introducing biofortified crops as new crops on the market required people to receive the right information as to why they should produce and consume these crops. Nutrition trainings were a platform to disseminate this much needed information. These trainings were designed to give people information on nutritional benefits of biofortified crops and recommended feeding practices for children and women of reproductive age since these were the target audiences. Using cascade model, trainings were conducted for Health and non-health professionals, Community Resource Persons, Village Health Teams (VHTs) and Lead mothers. Trainings were conducted before the crops were distributed to the targeted audience and continued with demonstrations after the crops were harvested. Trainings became one of the tools used in disseminate information and create demand for biofortified crops being promoted.
