Abstract/Description

As CCFAS/CGIAR follows an open access policy and FAIR principles, you are likely to upload curated data, analyzed data in an institutional repository with all the metadata and add the Open Access logo. But it is saying “Open Access” a self- explanatory concept that lets users know how they can use the data? If not, what else would we need to add? What parameters should we take into account to add or decide upon terms?

We have likely heard or used licenses applicable to information products such as the Creative Commons (CC). It is also likely that we do not know the implications of using the varied CC licenses.

In this seminar we will look at CC licenses and others applicable to data and informational resources from the point of view of balance. That is it, balance among openness, rights of data providers or data subjects, rights of data generators, formal property rights such as copyright, possible terms dictated by funding agencies, the goals you would like to achieve with the data/information, and the possibilities of building on it.
