ILRI. 2026. Derisking Pastoral Livestock Systems for Climate Resilience, Investment and Inclusive Growth in West and Central Africa: Concept note submitted to the UNFCCC Sharm El‑Sheikh online portal. Nairobi, Kenya: ILRI.

Abstract/Description

This portfolio presents integrated ILRI concept notes aimed at strengthening climate-resilient livestock systems through coordinated risk management approaches. The concepts span disease control (including strategic PPR vaccination), animal health system strengthening, decision-support tools, de-risking mechanisms, and genetic improvement. Together, they address overlapping climate, health, and market risks facing agro-pastoral and smallholder systems. The portfolio promotes a shift from reactive responses to proactive, data-driven resilience building. Collectively, these approaches support sustainable livestock productivity, livelihood stability, and systems transformation in vulnerable regions.
