Abstract/Description

In 2024, India introduced 29 unique rice varieties through the Central and State Variety Release Committees (CVRC and SVRC), developed using parent lines from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). These varieties are the products of a strong IRRI-NARES research collaboration, targeted for genetic improvement to address diverse agro-climatic challenges. This booklet serves to acquaint breeders, scientists, and stakeholders with these newly released varieties, highlighting their potential for enhancing productivity, resilience, and nutritional security. Following their release, these varieties will undergo rigorous on-farm testing through IRRI’s systematic evaluation framework under its Seed System initiative. The highest performing varieties will be prioritized for large-scale dissemination and early-generation seed multiplication, ensuring rapid adoption by farmers. By bridging research and real-world application, this effort underscores IRRI’s commitment to strengthening India’s seed systems and accelerating the delivery of climate-smart, high-yielding rice varieties to farming communities.
