Abstract/Description

This report documents the technical training workshop on the development and maintenance of Data Libraries and Maprooms, conducted from August 8 to 14, 2024, at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in Abuja. Organized as part of the AICCRA-MALI project, the workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of MALI-METEO staff to develop, maintain, and utilize climate data platforms effectively.

Participants were introduced to the Climate Data Library, a tool for accessing, analyzing, and visualizing climate data, as well as Maprooms, which enable live generation of climate-related visualizations for decision-making. The training covered topics such as Ingrid programming, database management, data cataloging, and the use of Git and Bitbucket for source code management. Practical exercises focused on manipulating datasets, updating databases, and customizing maproom interfaces.

Key recommendations included the continuation of capacity-building initiatives, updating software infrastructure, and improving logistical organization for future workshops. The training underscored the importance of robust climate data systems in supporting sustainable agricultural practices and climate resilience in Mali.
