Abstract/Description
This presentation presents a cost-benefit analysis of over two decades of research and development (R&D) investments in the commercialization of galip nut in Papua New Guinea. The analysis estimates that approximately AUD 8.3 million invested between 2000 and 2022 generated substantial economic returns, with farmers capturing most of the benefits through increased income and productivity gains. Results indicate a benefit-cost ratio of 34.6, suggesting that every dollar invested in galip nut R&D generated about AUD 35 in benefits, demonstrating strong economic viability and positive returns to public and donor investments. The study concludes that adoption of improved galip nut varieties has been the primary driver of benefits and highlights opportunities for further value chain development through investments in processing technology, quality standards, market research, and adoption-focused interventions. -Abstract generated by Copilot AI 2.2
