Abstract/Description

ICRISAT hosted a three-day Review, Capacity Strengthening, Knowledge Transfer and Planning program on “AI-powered Agro-met Advisories at Scale” from 17-19 December 2025 under Mission Mausam. The program also aligns with CGIAR’s Digital Transformation Accelerator and responds to priority demands from CGIAR’s Climate Action science program. The program was funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and supported by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD). In total, 22 participants (17 men and 5 women) from these institutions took part in the program. The event brought together teams from ICRISAT, ICAR–Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), All India Coordinated Research Project on Agrometeorology (AICRPAM) centers, IITM and IMD. Participants reviewed progress, shared insights and planned the next phase of AI-enabled agro-advisory services to support climate-resilient decision-making for farmers. Discussions covered learnings from earlier pilots, standardization of agri-data ecosystems for AI readiness, machine learning–based decision frameworks, large language model (LLM) architecture and fine-tuning, AI workflows and the roadmap for nationwide scaling.
