Fish Base, a global database with key information on fin fish, is now available on CD-ROM. Currently Fish Base covers over 12,000 species that are either economically important in terms of fisheries, aquaculture, game fishing or the ornamental trade; or because they are under threat and need protection. This first public version of FishBase is a preliminary one The FishBase team hopes for good feedback from the members of the Network of Tropical Fisheries Scientists in order to produce a consolidated version by the end of 1995. FishBase has been developed at the International Centre for Living Aquatic Resource Management (ICLARM) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and with the support of the European Commission FishBase collaborators can now request their own copy whilst others can order it for US$95.
