WFP programs integrate conflict-sensitive nature-based solutions to support 7,000 households in Northern Mozambique

In conflict-affected Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique, CGIAR and the World Food Programme (WFP) co-developed a conflict-sensitive nature-based solution approach to support livelihood recovery interventions in Palma and Mocímboa da Praia. Using integrated ecosystem assessments across 10 communities, supported by spatial and scenario modeling, combined with participatory conflict-sensitive analysis in the two districts, the initiative identified Nature-based Solutions that restore livelihoods without exacerbating tensions. The results directly inform WFP programs, expected to reach ~7,000 households, thereby demonstrating how environmental restoration can advance social stability, resilience, and humanitarian recovery in climate- and conflict-affected contexts.
