Abstract/Description

Rice is central to Philippine food security and rural livelihoods, but irrigated rice production is also an important source of methane emissions. The baseline survey was undertaken under the ""Deliver a National Rice Sub-sector Strategy for SLCP Mitigation"" Project to provide field-level evidence for developing a national strategy to reduce short lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) from the rice sub-sector. The assessment focused on three climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices with direct relevance to methane and air-pollutant mitigation: Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), Direct-Seeded Rice (DSR), and Climate-Smart Rice Straw Management (RSM). It also examined farmers’ awareness of carbon markets, willingness to shift to CSA practices under various incentive schemes, and current production conditions that may enable or constrain CSA adoption.
