Abstract/Description

The Climate-Smart Agriculture Investment Plan (CSAIP) for Borno State outlines a strategic response to the region’s acute climate vulnerabilities—rising temperatures, rainfall variability, desertification, and conflict-related livelihood disruptions—by prioritizing five investment areas designed to enhance productivity, resilience, and mitigation in the agricultural sector. Centered on Finance for CSA, Agroforestry and Land Management, Integrated Livestock Management, Extension Services, and Integrated Crop Management, the plan targets over 1.2 million beneficiaries across all agroecological zones, offering climate-resilient technologies, improved access to finance and advisory services, and sustainable land-use practices. Economic analysis shows strong profitability for key CSA interventions, while alignment with Nigeria’s NDC, national policies, and the Borno State Development Plan strengthens its feasibility. Overall, the CSAIP provides a comprehensive framework to improve food security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and build long-term resilience for smallholder farmers in Borno State
